Natural Medicine For Gut Health

Summer is fast approaching and with that people are making their travel plans.

When people travel it is easy to get all caught up in your vacation and not think about your gut health. When you don't look after your gut health it can lead to many problems like unintentional weight changes, upset stomach, brain fog and fatigue.

We had a patient come in with these symptoms and she had been struggling and she finally decided to see what was going on. She started, "I travelled a lot, drinking bottled water most of the time and brushed my teeth with local water!" She continued, "I ate off of street vendors and drank tea from clay cups that you smashed on the ground when you were done."

So we started a parasite cleanse, gut-healing supplements that includes a probiotic and an anti-inflammatory supplement, and did a series of physiotherapy to strengthen her stomach and immune response.   In short order she was feeling better and over time we worked with her to build a healthy lifestyle to keep everything functioning well.  Commonly the history isn't as telling and further testing helps us identify parasites, yeasts, or unwanted bacteria.  Either way correcting the gut storm goes a long way to a happier day and often is the first step in correcting more complicated disease.

We have had great results using this program but there are also a lot of ways to help prevent these issues while you are traveling.

Your gut health is so important and you don't need to suffer, here are 4 easy tips that you can do to help you and your guy while you travel.

  • Take additional enzymes to help you digest foods that your body is not used to. It helps cut down the heavy bloated feeling of eating foreign food while you are travelling.
  • A good probiotic is really good to help hold the fort. It keeps the gut and bowels moving and helps fend off unwanted new bacteria to some degree.
  • Anti-parasitic herbs to fight off new parasites while you are eating all the different foods.  Best if food is cooked
  • Finally, never to drink untreated water! Boil the water to make a hot beverage such as tea or for regular drinking.  As wonderful as ice is it is typically made from untreated local water so in most situations steer clear of ice. Even brushing your teeth requires boiled or bottled water.

Travelling is something that we all love to do and with these tips, you can make your trips more enjoyable and keep your gut happy and healthy.
